Continue reading below for more information on each herb and why included it in this blend!
Ingredients: ACV with the mother, raw honey, horseradish, jalapeno, cayenne pepper, turmeric, ginger, onion, garlic, lemon, orange, elderberry, echinacea, cinnamon, clove, star anise, black peppercorns, oregano, sage, peppermint, rosemary, thyme
Directions: Shake well before use. Place one full dropper directly into the back of the throat up to three times a day. Consult a physician before using if pregnant. Use within 6-8 months. If you notice carbonation upon opening the tincture, discard it. Fire cider is shelf stable as long as it is stored in a cool dry place, but freshness and longevity may be increased by keeping it in the fridge.
Apple Cider Vinegar With The Mother contains both prebiotics and probiotics that encourage the growth of healthy gut bacteria. It also helps to break down food for digestion, helping with bloating and indigestion. People often take ACV by itself to boost metabolism, promote weight loss, and regulate blood sugar.
Raw Honey is rich in antioxidants and contains antimicrobial properties, which help to boost the immune system and fight off infections. The wound healing abilities of raw honey are especially useful for soothing a sore throat.
Onions contain quercetin, a powerful antioxidant that is essential for cardiovascular health. They also are a source of vitamin C and help to regulate glucose levels in the body. Several generations in our family held the belief that eating raw onion every day keeps the doctor away!
Horseradish is a key ingredient in our Fire Cider because it brings a good amount of heat! It’s generally considered a cold and flu tonic, as it has decongestant and expectorant properties that help to clear sinuses and expel sticky mucus from the lungs.
Ginger is a powerful, multifaceted herb. Not only is it considered a digestive tonic that can ease a myriad of issues like bloating, gas and nausea, it also has anti-inflammatory properties that have shown to be as potent as taking an ibuprofen! Ginger also is an antiviral and antibacterial, helping to boost the immune system and fight off infections. Also, like many other herbs that have ‘heat’, or are spicy to taste, it’s fantastic for heart health as it stimulates the circulatory system.
Garlic is another herb that has a multitude of uses! Largely known for strengthening heart health and regulating blood pressure, garlic also is an anti-parasitic and contains antimicrobial properties that help fight off infections.
Cayenne is a major circulatory system stimulant that increases heart strength and it contains capsaicin, which can help block pain receptors, helping relieve pain.
Jalapeno, like cayenne, also contains capsaicin and strengthens the circulatory system. It is high in antioxidants and helps boost metabolism.
Lemon is rich in immune boosting antioxidants like vitamin c, and is commonly used to combat symptoms of upper respiratory infections. It also helps dissolve calcium deposits, gallstones and kidney stones.
Orange is not only delicious and high in vitamin C, it also contains potassium, flavonoids and carotenoids that help to keep cholesterol from forming into plaque.
Echinacea, along with elderberry, is often the first natural solution that comes to mind for boosting the immune system because it aids in the process of antibody formation and it stimulates the production of white blood cells, which are essential for fighting off infection. Echinacea fights the production of bacterial enzymes, which inhibits the spread of infections.
Cinnamon, another lovely spice herb, is known for stimulating the circulatory system and strengthening the heart.
Clove is a natural pain reliever and antiseptic, making it perfect for soothing and fighting infections for a sore throat. Like other spice herbs, it has a strengthening effect on the heart, and like garlic, it is an effective anti-parasitic.
Star Anise is an antibacterial and anti-fungal. It’s packed with antioxidants like quercetin and linalool, which protect the heart and can ease pain. Star Anise is a very common ingredient in many respiratory and digestive tonics.
Turmeric is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and digestive support properties. Turmeric contains curcumin, which is a compound that has both anti-cancer and immune boosting properties!
Thyme is awesome for fighting infections of all kinds, especially in the respiratory and digestive tracts! Not only does it fight infections, it also helps soothe symptoms that come with cold and cough, helping to clear sinuses and soothe cough.
Rosemary is useful for many things. It’s packed with immune supporting antioxidants and stimulates circulation in the heart and brain, even helping with memory retention. It is effective for soothing indigestion and even has antirheumatic properties that help ease joint pain.
Oregano is an absolute powerhouse herb! Not only is it a source of vitamins A, C, E and K, it also contains chemical compounds such as carvocal and thymol, which is what gives oregano its antimicrobial properties. It has anti-inflammatory, and even anti-cancer effects as well!
Peppermint is a digestive tonic that can also help soothe sore throat and irritated sinuses. Like many other herbs in this blend, peppermint also has antibacterial properties.
Sage, like many of the herbs in this blend that are generally considered more for culinary use, is actually excellent for fighting off viral and bacterial infections, specifically in the throat. Sage can help with fever, chills and cold sweats brought on by cold and flu. It also is helpful as a nerve tonic, easing stress.
Black Pepper is useful for more than just seasoning food! It’s been used for centuries to aid digestion and combat bloating. Most importantly, however, when combined with turmeric, it helps the body absorb compounds such as curcumin and berberine that reduce inflammation, regulate blood sugar, and manage cholesterol.
Elderberry is packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, making it very useful for combating infections and strengthening the immune system. It also acts as a decongestant, helping to break up mucus and soothe cold and flu symptoms.
