AM blend:
Tulsi/Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) is considered an adaptation, meaning it helps the body adapt to stress and maintain balance. Research suggests that holy basil may lower elevated cortisol, improve sleep, and reduce anxiety, all of which can help regulate cortisol levels.
Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) contains rosmarinic acid, a compound that contains both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that rosmarinic acid can help to reduce cortisol levels by inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation.
Chamomile ( Matricaria Recutita) may help reduce cortisol levels, particularly in individuals with anxiety or stress related conditions, as it is a naturaly calming herb.
Hibiscus (Hibiscus-rosa sinensis) studies have indicated that hibiscus may help lower morning cortisol levels, likely due to its potent antioxidants and other beneficial compounds. Research suggests that hibiscus may have an anti stress effect, potentially by influencing the secretion of both nitric oxide and cortisol.
Rosehips (Rosa canina) helps manage stress due to high vitamin C content and antioxidant properties.
Elderberry (Sambucus, L) may have a stress modulating effect that can influence cortisol levels, particularly in the context of chronic stress. Elderberry is antioxidant rich and helps to support our immune system!
Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) may help regulate cortisol by modulating the body’s stress response, leading to lower levels of the stress hormone, and is especially beneficial for those with stress related fatigue or burnout.
Hawthorn Berry (Crataegus monogyna) may help regulate cortisol levels by acting as an adaptogen and cal active, which helps the body respond to stress. It contains compounds like chlorogenic acid that may prevent stress hormone induced depression and reduce cortisol related inflammation.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) may help lower stress hormone levels by suppressing the regulation of the HPA axis. It may also support blood sugar regulation, which is related to stress responses in the body.
PM blend:
Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica, L) aids in regulating cortisol levels via compounds that influence the HPA axis. High cortisol and stress levels can deplete the adrenal system of vital minerals, which nettle is especially helpful for, as it is mineral rich.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) helps the body adapt to stress by modulating the hypothalamic pituitary axis, which regulates cortisol release. It is also a natural stress regulator, helping with anxiety and restless sleep.
Milky Oat Tops (Avena sativa) support our nervous system, soothing anxiety that can spike cortisol. Oatstraw, like nettle, is also mineral rich and helps to replenish the body.
Dandelion Root/Leaf (taraxacum) is used at night as a gentle diuretic, which can aid the body's natural detoxification processes. A healthy liver plays an essential role in the metabolism and
breakdown of hormones, including cortisol.
Skullcap (Scutellaria L,) is a mildly sedative nervine herb, helping to relax the body via the central nervous system. It can help promote healthy sleep, relax muscle tension, and reduce stress.
Lemon Verbena (Aloysia citrodora) has shown promise in studies for reducing cortisol levels. Research indicated that lemon verbena may decrease perceived stress and improve sleep quality by promoting relaxation. The mechanism is thought to involve the polyphenols verbascoside which affects GABA receptors, leading to a calming effect and better sleep
Lavender (Lavandula, Sp,) can help lower evening cortisol levels due to its sedative effects, promoting relaxation, reducing anxiety, and improving sleep, influencing the limbic system and boosting the body’s parasympathetic response.
Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata) helps quiet racing thoughts and promotes peaceful sleep, ideal for unwinding at night. It’s mildly sedative and also contains compounds that can assist with hormone regulation, which often contributes to unstable cortisol levels.
